Welcome to “Blast From the Past” with Nancy & Tonya!
In honor of the 20-year anniversary of the infamous attack on Nancy Kerrigan and subsequent drama at the Lillehammer Olympics in 1994, I’ve put together pretty much all the photos I could find of them in competition dresses. The difference in style is obvious. Tonya wore mostly bright colors, fringe, sparkles, sequins, very short skirts, and extremely unflattering chest cut-outs. Nancy pretty much wore black, white, or black-and-white, without frills. At least twice she wore yellow, though (see the other one here - it kind of looks like Yuna Kim’s dress from this season!). I especially love the huge matching yellow scrunchie in that last photo.
I give Nancy props for her Lillehammer free skate dress, though. Even though it’s beige and simple, it’s super sparkly and looked really pretty under the rink lights:
And finally, I bet they both regret being photographed a million times while wearing these practice outfits:
As always, if you see more Tonya or Nancy costumes please send them my way!
Bonus - some genius made this from NBC’s “Nancy & Tonya” documentary with Mary Carillo as the interviewer:
